Choose love or sympathy

But never both

I can't feel sympathy for a person I love.  Empathy, sorrow, those kind of things yes.  Sympathy- to me- means sharing the feelings but nothing more. I don't do that.  When I love you, I love you totally.  Bad, good, whatever.  Carley's total inability to close a door? No problem.  Dad taking over half my life to open up emotionally?  No big deal.  Mom going through her adolescence when she's in her fifties?  I'm there.  Sean's obsession with Linux?  I can deal.  But these are not things that I just sit idly by and have sympathy for the person.  To me, sympathy is just that- idle.  I'm not sympathetic.  If you have time to mourn something, feel bad about something, whine, complain, whatever... you have time to do something about it.  When somebody I love loses somebody, I grieve with them.  People need to open up more and FEEL the world they are in- not just nod their heads in agreement and say "I know how you feel."  Bullshit you do.  If you "know how she feels" then you'd be crying to.

Carley graduates in 2 days. WOOT.

Countdown to me getting a sugar mama...

Changes and whatnot

We embark today on Dune.  A nice long book with faces of environmentalism, psychology, the ubermensch, and love.  And sandworms.

The Bulletin Board is not up and running.  For this, I blame my esteemed if irritating brother.  SO... Until such time as my BB is up and working correctly, just post comments on here and we'll discuss that way.

Also- I'm not calling it Book of the Month anymore.  Just Book Club.  Reason being- Some books may take us more than a month to finish, some may take us substantially less.  So it's book-of-the-however-long-it-takes-us club.   Sound good?

Update: The BB is up.  It's ugly but I'll be working on making it look purdy soon.  Let the games begin.

Ok. I'm going to veto Ender's Game for the first one (because I've only got 100 pages left of it.  I started reading it on Thursday) and I think I'm going to say no to Chanticle for Liebowitz too.  No reason for that one.

Let's say...

The first book we're reading is going to be Dune by Frank Herbert.  We'll start talking discussions early this coming week.

Sean- that means I'm gonna call you for help with my BB.

Book of the Month

Alright kids.  Here's how I'm doin this.  Book of the month club starts today.  I will take suggestions until Friday.  What do we want to read?  What genre?  Author?  Gimme input.  Friday I will close the polls.  Buy or check out the book (if you need to) over the weekend.  We start reading on Monday.  We'll start discussing on Tuesday or wednesday.

How often do we want to do major posts?  I will be trying to make a forum thingy so we can do the whole message board in something cleaner than just a comments forum.. We'll see how things work.

Remember- if you are using MSIE... Get a browser that works or just remember to click on the post's number in the upper left- that will show you the comments and the input page and all the search stuff too.  In the mean time, I'll try to figure out why my current skin hates IE so much.

So we all know how much I love reading and writing.  My illustrious buddy Jon has brought up the idea of my having a "book of the month" club or something similar.  Anybody interested?  I was thinking...

Each month, pick a book, read it, discuss it, comments, banter, whatever...  I'm thinking maybe decide which books will be next a few weeks in advance to make it easier to get our hands on them.  Anybody interested?
